FAQ

• 1. Is this website only available for members?

  Everyone can browse and search for map data through this website, but only members can apply for map data.

• 2. How do I register as a member?

  Citizen Digital Certificate or Corporate Certificate is necessary. First, please apply for “Citizen Digital Certificate” in Household Registration Office or “Corporate Certificate” in Economic Development Bureau or Department of Economic Development. Then, login with the certificate and register as a member.

• 3. What should I do if I forgot my password? How do I unlock my Citizen Digital Certificate if I forgot my PIN code which causes Citizen Digital Certificate suspension?

  This website verifies your identity with Citizen Digital Certificate. For your safety, IC card will be locked if you enter wrong PIN number 3 times. And please go to http://moica.nat.gov.tw/ to unlock your IC card (Citizen Digital Certificate -> How to Unblock IC Card / Reset PIN). If you forgot your subscriber code, please bring your ID card and Citizen Digital Certificate to Household Registration Office and reset your subscriber code.

• 4. What kind of mapping results do we have? What are the prices of those items?

• 5. What kind of mapping service do we provide in map shops created by National Land Surveying and Mapping center?

  We have 7 branches in Hualien, Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Chiayi, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung. Branches are commissioned to retail “printed maps,” “digital maps,” and “paper maps.” Descriptions are as following:

  • A. “Printed Map” includes Cadastral Maps, Land Section Maps, reservations of Cadastral Maps, Orthophoto Base Maps, and Land Use Investigation Maps. (Taichung branch will send map data by post and the freight is an application expense.)
  • B. “Digital Maps” includes Topographic Maps, Cadastral Maps, Land Section Maps, Taiwan Electronic Maps, Land Use Investigation Maps, and reservation of Cadastral Maps.
  • C. “Paper Maps” includes Topographic Maps, Satellite Topographic Maps, and Taiwan Map with scale of 1/400000.

  Please refer to “Information about our branches” for more contact information. In addition, contour layers are not included in digital data of topographic map, and address layers are not included in Taiwan Electronic Maps.

• 6. How do I apply for map data? How do I pay for it?

  The map data can be requested via online service, fax, email, post or in person. For online application, there are online payment (including online transfer, Web ATM, and card payment online) and offline payment (including ATM and bill collection service at convenience stores); for fax payment and post payment, we provide postal order (Payee: National Land Surveying and Mapping Center); users apply for map data in person, please pay in at branches. Credit cards are accepetable at Taichung branch from May 1, 2016. Notice for online payment:

  • 1. Credit cards are not acceptable for login with Corporate Certificate.
  • 2. Credit cards are ONLY acceptable for login with Corporate Certificate.If you login with Citizen Digital Certificate, please pay by your own card not others.

  Notice for offline payment:

  “Bill collection service at convenience stores” will be recorded in 4 to 7 days, and “transfer of ATM” will be recorded within one day. Therefore, we suggest “transfer via ATM” so that you can get map data as soon as possible.

• 7. When is the deadline of offline payment? Is extra commission required if the payment is collected by convenience stores?

  The deadline of offline payment (including ATM and collection service at convenience stores) is within 15 days, and extra commission depends on different convenience stores. For example, the commission fee is NT$8 for 7–ELEVEN.

• 8. How to download map data after online application finished?

  After the payment has been confirmed, you will receive an e-mail with download link and password. Next, login “National Land Surveying and Mapping Knowledge Database” with Citizen Digital Certificate or Corporate Certificate, and go to Application for Map Data and download it. Note: if you cannot unzip the file, please download this software. For 64-bit system, please download this software.

• 9. Why is there no login page for Mapping Retrieval System? How to refund if you want to close an account?

  The Mapping Retrieval System has not been available for applying since January 1, 2016. If you have paid hours which have not been used, they will be available until the end of 2016. If you want to refund, please check the amount on “Refund Amount” and apply for return according to “Rules for Refund & Application for Refund.” If any questions, please call 04-22522966 ext. 303, 302 or 319.

• 10. What kind of open data do we have? Where to download it?

  The open data included boundary map of villages, townships, municipalities, and counties or cities, digital data and topographic map of economic development, and jurisdiction map of Land Offices. Please go to “National Land Surveying and Mapping Knowledge Database” > Open Data and download it. (Please refer to Open Data License Ver. 1)

• 11. How can I inquire the shooting year of orthophotos?

  Because different year for different area, there is semi-transparent watermark and the Common Era is the shooting year.

• 12. What if there is [*] or messy code appears in Mapping Administration Section of data of administrative boundary and village boundary?

  Regarding to the [*] or messy code in Mapping Administration Section, please choose UTF-8 encoding, and data will display properly.

• 13. Why have the achievements of Land Use Investigation been classified as Level 2 or Level 3?

  We classified and counted up the land use situation with remote sensing imagery technology and GIS mapping. There are 9 classification included agriculture, forest, water resource, traffic, architecture, public facilities, recreation and mineral, and subdivided into Level 2 and Level 3. Attribute data included use classification, acquiring method, time for making and image reference and interpretation.
  From 2006 to 2015, we conducted 103 categories of Level 3 according to the “table of land use classification” stipulated in 2006. From 2016 to now, we have conducted 57 categories of Level 2 according to the “table of land utilization classification” renamed and stipulated in 2015. Please refer to the following document:
